I can't see my new master pages in SPD - HELP!

Oct 20, 2010 at 4:47 PM

I've added Randy's master pages to my site (by dragging and dropping them from Explorer into the master pages pane in SPD).  However, they don't appear in the list of files there.  I can change the site to _starter_publishing.master and very cool it is too (by inference the pages are available to SharePoint itself).  However, I now want to customise the new master page with some other changes, but as I said, it doesn't appear in the list of Master Pages in SharePoint Designer (Site Objects -> Master Pages).  The new master pages are all checked in, published and approved in the Site Settings, Galleries, Master Pages and Page Layouts page.

I don't really want to hack them in VS2010 if I can help it.

Thoughts?  Thanks.

They won't show automatically under master pages unless you copy an existing mp and replace the contents OR until you change the version to 4 which can be done in the mp gallery in the web ui.

You can also see all master pages by expanding the last option on the left in SPD and clicking the thumb tack, then navigate to catalogs / masterpages.
